An idea unfolds
Twofold Handcrafted Travel was created by Jessica Warner to channel her passion for textiles and travel. She launched Twofold in 2013 with her first textile tour to Japan and an online boutique selling products from international textile designers. Jessica grew up in Canberra, Australiaβs capital. After graduating from the Australian National University, she moved to New York, where she worked for the Guggenheim Museum and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. She also nurtured her longstanding interest in textiles with classes in surface design and weaving at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She eventually moved overseas with her family, spending time in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney before returning to the U.S. and settling in Boulder, Colorado.
Innovative style, old techniques: what's in a name?
Twofold seeks out artisans and designers who stand out for their inventive designs and old-world craftsmanship. "Twofold" embraces dichotomies like traditional/contemporary; style/substance; local/global; and functional/beautiful.
What to expect from our small-group tours
Our goal is to provide an intimate, immersive travel experience that connects travelers to new places through the lens of textiles, fashion, craft and design. Our tours focus on studio-visits with designers and artisans; shopping for locally-made artisanal products; and other cultural experiences. In each tour destination, Jessica works with trusted local partners to coordinate travel logistics. Each tour is guided by a local bilingual expert with deep connection to the people and places weβre visiting.
A commitment to sustainable travel
There's a lot of talk in the travel industry about about sustainability but what exactly does that mean? Sustainable travel takes you to places most others don't go and keeps your money in the country you're visiting. This is done by employing local guides and drivers, patronizing locally-owned hotels and restaurants and shopping directly from artisans and local retailers. Sustainable travel values leaving a small environmental footprint and prioritizing meaningful people-to-people experiences.
