This was the trip of a lifetime for me. Learning about Japan and its history through its exquisite textiles was an amazing way to get to know the country. The trip was as much about learning about ikat, indigo, shibori, weaving as it was about storytelling by the artisans and their generations-long dedication to their crafts. Each accommodation, tour, meal and activity was thoughtfully picked to add texture and depth to our experience of Japan, its culture and incredibly warm and generous people.

A pitch-perfect tour of Japan, focused on textiles and artisans preserving old traditions and blazing new paths, honoring the old and incorporating a new vision. Everything about this tour was unique, from the artisans we met to the hotels we stayed in and the restaurants we visited. We stopped at roadside restaurants and tea houses where we were the only non-Japanese patrons, we visited the homes of locals who taught us about traditional cuisine, and we spent our days marveling at the beauty of the countryside, and the people who welcomed us so warmly. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in Japanese traditions and avoiding the typical tourist attractions of that beautiful country. I loved it!
